Lets drive to ALASKA!!

4:30 am we decided to leave for ALASKA!!  As we were going thru Big Sur, Bernhard screams "CALIFORNIA CONDOR"!!!  I had missed it, but I saw a huge shadow soar across the road!!

Big Sur State Park, CA

Our first campsite of our Journey to Alaska.

This was a nice place to camp!! Large campsites, very pretty trees and some of the campsites were along the Big Sur River!!

The next morning after we got on the road to continue our journey, I felt something fly in the pinz and hit my neck.  As I freaked out to brush it away the little shit bee or wasp stung me in the neck!!  I had never been stung before, and Bernhard freaked me out asking me if I was allergic cause I might go into anaphylactic shock!!  Luckily all I got was a little pain in the neck and a nice welt!!  At least now we know that I am not allergic.

Barnyard Shopping Center...Carmel, CA

Barnyard Shopping and Dining...Meet Barnyard!!

Golden Gate Bridge...San Francisco, CA

It was sooo foggy that day you could hardly see the bridge let alone the bay.  Once we got over the bridge of course it was clear out!!

Still Water Campground, CA

The second night we camped out at a little campground of the side of the road.  We met some older guys camping with their dogs in their team of VW Westfalias.  One of the men was very talkative and had been to Alaska!!  We wanted any advice and information we could get!!  Come to find out though, all this guy really wanted to do was try to scare us and freak us out.  He started with saying the tent we had wasn't gonna last.  With all the rain its gonna be wet, and with the bears they will get right thru it.  He said there were bears everywhere, packs of wolves and pretty much they are going to eat us.  He was also thrilled to share with us his best "invention" ever!!  He had a 5 gallon bucket that was his best friend.  It was not only a seat, a ladder, a storage bin but it was also his toilet!!  He thought he was a genius!!

Glass Beach...Fort Bragg, CA

Beautiful beach to comb for pieces of sea glass that have been tumbling around for years!!  This place used to be a garbage dump years ago.  There isn't much sea glass left, but if you look for awhile you can still find some!!  I have a few good pieces that I brought back.

Trees of Mystery...Klamath, CA

We stopped into the parking lot to get a picture of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Big Blue Ox!!
Bernhard took the liberty of "Milking" the cow!!

Florence Keller Regional Park...Cresent City, CA

Another great campground!!  Lots of redwoods!!  We had a cute little black cat that hung out with us that night.  We roughed it and had an MRE for dinner and watched "Hot Tub Time Machine" on the MacBook that night!!

Rogue Brewing...Newport, OR

We made sure to stop in here for some growlers to go!!

Devils Lake Campground... Lincoln City, OR

This was a busy campground we stayed at that had a beautiful lake.  Their were kids on the dock catching little fish with sticks!  We chatted with an older couple who had traveled all over Alaska and Canada before.  They said it is a beautiful trip!!  I asked them if they saw many animals (curious to see if their answer was going to be like the "westfalia" weirdos!!)  The lady said if you want to see animals, you need to go to the zoo!!

Klahowya Campground, Olympic National Forest, OR

This campground was awesome!!  Very thick with trees, seclusion from other campers and right on the river!!  We picked a campsite with a great view and enjoyed our dinner with some Rainer Beer!!

101 Highway...somewhere in OR

So yea...we don't go too fast!!  Even the loggers were passing us up!!

The Goonies...Astoria, OR

Everyone who grew up in the 80's knows one of the best movies ever!!  The first photo is of "Haystack Rock".  If you watch the movie, you will notice it several time through out.  We made sure to stop on by Mikey and Brand's house!!  Its the house at the top of the hill above Pinzy.  The last photo is of a sign showing what the current owners have posted.

Snohomish, WA

We met up with a fellow Pinzgauer enthusiast, Ed Eissmann!!  We checkout out each others trucks and then we had a pinzy parade to Chuckanut Brewery.
Ed introduced us to one of his assistants who was an Alaskan Native from Haines which is the port we will be getting off the ferry at.  She gave us some tips of places to go and see!!   After visiting, Ed and one of his sons escorted us to the best camping spot around!!  We took a fire road up into the mountains and pulled into a spot overlooking "Little Cavanaugh Lake".  We couldn't see the lake let alone anything by time we got there.  It was pitch black!!  Ed and his son headed back home, but before they left, his son gave us a heads up of the location of a game trail to watch for animals.  It just happened to be right where our ladder to the tent is.  I asked what kind of game, and he said mostly deer, but there are bear up there too!  I freaked out a bit after they left!!  Thank goodness for shotguns, and bear spray!!   We didn't see any animals that night, or in the morning.  All I could think of was Bambi running down that game trail and smacking some antlers on the ladder and getting stuck!!
